OWLS Post for December 2016

November was a fun month for the OWLs. We began with Friday Night at the Movies. A fun-loving group of 22 headed to the local cinema for viewing the action thriller “Inferno”. We followed this with a wonderful fish fry dinner. A great time was had by all. Based on feedback from the group we will have another movie outing in the new year.

The OWLs will kick off December and the Christmas season with an awesome Christmas concert. We will travel as a group to English Lutheran to hear the UWL combined choirs and orchestra “Festival of Carols XXIV.” This is an uplifting concert that will get us in the spirit of the season as we prepare for the birth of Christ. The concert is free and will take place on Sunday, December 4, at English Lutheran in La Crosse. We will leave from the church at 3 PM to travel to English and make sure we get there early enough to get good seats. Following the concert, we will have dinner at a local restaurant to enjoy some good food and fellowship. Dinner is on your own. So we know how much transportation to arrange, please contact Brian Narveson at owls@firstlu.org or 608-526-9700 by Saturday Dec. 3, if you plan to attend. This is a great way to kick off the Christmas season.

The concert will be great, but the event of the season is the World Famous OWLs Christmas Potluck. This event is known for its fabulous food, great fellowship, fun games, wonderful gift exchange and large array of Christmas goodies. This fantastic event takes place in the narthex on Wednesday, December 21, at noon. The gift exchange is optional. Please bring a gift if you would like to receive a gift. The gift theme this year will be “An Old-fashioned Christmas.” Bring something purchased or handmade that reminds you of a Christmas past. Please keep the value of the gift to less than $10. We also ask all who can to bring a few Christmas goodies to share in addition your potluck dish. This will serve as our dessert for December. If you have a favorite Christmas sweater or outfit, please wear it on this festive occasion. Looking forward to seeing everyone in December.
